EVOLUTION OF THE MONITORS - Part 2
Monitors are getting larger, thinner and curvier with more pixels in it.
How will monitors look like in the future?
Here's our version.

Flexible or Portable or Both?
To proceed to the design phase the team discussed what ideas to implement. Initially, there were discussions on incorporating two major ideas into a product which were 'flexible touch screen' and 'portable full-sized monitor'. But in the process of converging ideas into a single product with harmonizing features, Yoojin decided to move further with only a 'flexible screen'.
Introducing "the eXPAND"
Expanded Usability, Enhanced Productivity
"THE EXPAND" is a flexible monitor that affords different modes and screen ratios to expand its usability and enhance performance for various types of tasks.
Optimal Screen Ratio
When the monitor is fully unfolded, the screen ratio becomes 3:2, which is optimal for browsing, editing, and coding.
Multitasking at ease
By folding the sub-screen under an angle the monitor provides intuitive distinguishment of the main screen(main task) from sub screen(sub-tasks).
Ergonomic interaction
The monitor can be easily optimized for touch interaction by pulling the screen closer and folding the sub-screen to a horizontal position. Sub screen can boost productivity for creative activities such as video editing, audio mixing. With a connection to the smartphone, it can function as a PC, and the subscreen can function as a keypad.
Cinematic Experience
By fully folding the sub-screen monitor turns into CinemaScope ratio and the speakers will face the front, to provide an immersive experience while watching movies.
Stream & Play
Streamers can check chat and event alerts without overlaying or switching windows with the main window.
Players can focus on the game by placing auxiliary applications such as Discord and Blitz right under the game screen.
Further Steps
Though it was not implemented, UX researchers considered that the idea of a portable full-sized monitor worth of further studies, since it may hugely expand the usability and potential value to consumers. Yoojin suggests conducting further studies focusing on specific aspects such as screen sizes and forms, optimal battery life, and weight.
